Project Background and Overview
This project is located in Nigeria’s coastal region and serves as a key flagship initiative promoted by the local government to drive urban development and economic growth. It is being implemented by a reputable engineering construction company. The core task of the project is large-scale dredging and land reclamation in coastal mudflats and shallow offshore areas, providing ample land resources for future urban new districts, industrial parks, and supporting infrastructure.
The project is not only massive in scale but also places extremely high demands on construction quality, schedule, and safety, aiming to become a landmark development project in the region.
However, the implementation of this project faces numerous severe natural and technical challenges. The work area is situated in an open coastal waterscape, heavily influenced by tides, with frequent and significant water level fluctuations that continuously test vessel draft control, operational stability, and construction safety. Meanwhile, efficiently transporting the excavated sediment to a reclamation site several kilometers away—achieving “long-distance, high-concentration, high-flow” material transport—has become a critical technical bottleneck determining the project’s success or failure. Traditional equipment often struggles to meet such large-scale requirements due to limited transport distances, insufficient concentration, or severe system wear and tear.
To overcome these challenges, YaKai customized and provided the client with a large, specialized dredger capable of handling 3,000 cubic meters per hour. This vessel’s design seamlessly integrates the core needs of efficient excavation and long-distance transport, featuring industry-leading technological specifications:
First, the ship is equipped with a high-power, highly efficient pumping system that generates strong vacuum suction and discharge pressure, ensuring high-concentration suction and discharge even when excavating hard soil layers, thereby providing robust power support for long-distance transport. Second, addressing the issue of severe pipeline wear during high-concentration sediment transport, the entire vessel employs specially designed wear-resistant piping systems made from premium materials and crafted with meticulous precision, significantly extending the service life of vulnerable components and effectively reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
In actual operations, this dredger has demonstrated exceptional adaptability and performance. Faced with complex tidal variations, operators can use a precise control system to adjust draft depth and operational parameters in real time, ensuring uninterrupted construction continuity. Its powerful conveying capacity enables stable delivery of sediment mixtures up to 3,000 meters to designated areas, achieving integrated “excavation, transport, and filling” operations without intermediate transshipment, greatly enhancing overall efficiency. Furthermore, during the reclamation process, the equipment can precisely control sediment dispersion and accumulation, resulting in highly leveled reclaimed land with elevation deviations kept within ideal tolerances, laying a very solid foundation for subsequent ground treatment and construction projects.
Project Implementation Timeline
Since its inception, thanks to the equipment’s outstanding performance and scientifically organized construction management, all aspects of the project have progressed smoothly. Despite the enormous scale and complex technical requirements, the project team overcame various difficulties posed by natural conditions, ensuring steady progress according to plan. Ultimately, all construction tasks were completed on schedule and to the required quality standards, successfully handed over for use, delivering a highly satisfactory result to the client.
Application Outcomes and Benefit Analysis
The deployment of YaKai’s large dredger has successfully helped the client achieve the project’s strategic objectives, with all key indicators meeting or exceeding design requirements:
1. Massive Project Scale: The equipment consistently delivers over 50,000 cubic meters of reclaimed land per day, showcasing formidable production capacity and efficiently accelerating project progress.
2. Outstanding Technical Performance: With a maximum transport distance of 3,000 meters, it resolves the challenge of long-distance material conveyance; the equipment maintains an overall availability rate above 95%, rarely experiencing breakdowns or shutdowns, thus ensuring continuous and efficient construction.
3. Superior Quality of Results: The project has cumulatively reclaimed more than 200,000 square meters of land, with exceptionally smooth surfaces and excellent compaction, fully satisfying the construction standards for subsequent large-scale buildings and infrastructure.
4. Significant Comprehensive Benefits: Efficient construction not only shortened the overall project timeline and reduced comprehensive management costs, but more importantly, the high-quality land reclamation earned the client a strong social reputation, making the project a widely recognized landmark in the region.
