Project Background and Overview
This project is a key urban water conservancy initiative aimed at improving public welfare. Its core task is to carry out comprehensive dredging and desilting of the city’s inland rivers, with the goal of effectively widening and deepening the river cross-sections, significantly enhancing water flow capacity, and thereby comprehensively upgrading regional flood control and drainage standards as well as navigational conditions, providing solid support for urban ecological improvement and economic development.
However, the implementation conditions of this project are extremely challenging. The river in question is characterized by narrow channels, numerous bends, and significant variations in water depth, resulting in complex underwater terrain that poses considerable difficulties for conventional large-scale dredging equipment. Moreover, the project places nearly stringent demands on equipment regarding draft depth, maneuverability, and operational precision. Prior to the project’s commencement, the client’s biggest challenge was how to achieve efficient dredging within limited space while ensuring that the excavated sediment could be transported over long distances to designated disposal sites, thus avoiding secondary pollution or increased transportation costs.
To precisely meet the project’s requirements, YaKai custom-designed a specialized cutter suction dredger with a capacity of 1,200 cubic meters per hour. This equipment was meticulously engineered to address the site’s complex operating conditions, combining an advanced fully hydraulic drive system with a proven cutter-suction principle, offering the following key technical advantages:
First, the vessel features a shallow-draft design, enabling it to move freely and operate even in rivers with fluctuating water levels and relatively shallow depths, demonstrating exceptional adaptability. Second, its powerful hydraulically driven cutter head can vigorously cut and agitate underwater silt and hard soil layers, ensuring thorough excavation without leaving any blind spots. The robust suction system delivers strong performance, allowing the dredged slurry mixture to be directly conveyed through pipelines over long distances—up to 1,000 meters—truly achieving integrated “suction and discharge,” eliminating intermediate transfer stages. This not only greatly reduces the environmental impact of construction but also significantly cuts secondary transportation costs.
In addition, the equipment’s control system is highly precise and responsive, capable of dynamically adjusting operational parameters based on actual water depth and sediment thickness, guaranteeing accurate control of dredging depth. This ensures compliance with engineering design specifications while preventing resource waste caused by over-excavation. With high integration and excellent automation, the entire system can flexibly turn and position itself even in confined waterways, perfectly addressing the challenges posed by complex working conditions.
Project Implementation Timeline
Application Outcomes and Benefit Analysis
The deployment of YaKai’s dredging vessel successfully achieved all the project’s predefined core objectives, yielding significant engineering benefits:
1. Qualitative Improvement in Flood Control and Navigation Capacity: Following completion, the river’s flood-carrying cross-section was effectively expanded, increasing its flood-discharge capacity by 40% and substantially strengthening the city’s resilience against flooding, while navigation conditions were thoroughly improved.
2. Substantial Increase in Production Efficiency: The equipment maintained a steady daily dredging output of 1,500–1,800 cubic meters, boosting overall operational efficiency by 25% compared to standard industry equipment, enabling high-capacity, fast-paced construction.
3. Significant Optimization of Operating Costs: The application of long-distance pipeline transport technology eliminated the need for traditional mud barge transfers, directly reducing expenses related to fuel, labor, and equipment wear and tear.
4. Strong Assurance of Equipment Reliability: With a meticulously designed structure and durable key components, the equipment has demonstrated continuous operation for over 90% of the time, exhibiting an extremely low failure rate, ensuring round-the-clock, uninterrupted project progress and effectively shortening the overall construction timeline.
